Fitting-out and development of a public area in the old quarter of a roughly 200 meter long stretch of the river as it flows through Herrera de los Navarros, covering an approximate area of 14.000 square meters.
The proposal expects to bring the river back to the village. To blur, as far as possible, the wound that divides the two sides of the river, letting the river share in the life of the town.
The criteria of the proposal are to establish the river as a deepening axis of the urban weave, to solve the unions of the banks. On the one hand vehicles, on the other hand pedestrians. The project also expects a change of the bridge’s location to set up a new main square to connect the two banks of the river, from where metallic elements, designed to provide shade and unify the space, arise. On the other hand, ladders and stairways are added to both banks in order to provide a variety of recreational activities. The winding shapes of the new route of the bed, more sensuous, will greatly soften the relation between wall and water in future floods. The lighting is set at different levels and the proposed materials will mainly be in different colours and textures that will define the spaces and compatibility of applications.
It is a calm and slow creation, without shrillness, without whims, kind and suggestive.
